LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – Got game, concert or convention passes? Stressed just thinking about traffic and parking? Are you like most locals who avoid the Strip at all costs? Don’t stress!

Cheering on our local teams and going out into town doesn’t have to be painful.

Using the Las Vegas monorail system or other streetcars around town can help get you where you go with less stress on “Vegas Like a Local!” from this week.

The Las Vegas Monorail has 7 stops along the resort corridor to help you get to your destination and offers one-way, daily, and 2-7 day passes.

LOCAL COUNCIL: Anyone with a Nevada ID card can purchase a $ 1 one-way pass at any of the monorail’s customer service kiosks upon presentation of your valid Nevada driver’s license, your ID card issued by the state government of Nevada or your Nevada Sheriff Card.

For all ticketing options, visit lvmonorail.com/ticket-information.

While the monorail can help you get to many places on the Strip, it can make it easier to get to Allegiant Stadium, T-Mobile Arena, and the Las Vegas Convention Center than driving directly to those locations.

RELATED: Vegas Like a Local: NBA Summer League

Parking at a more remote property and using the monorail can help you lower your parking costs and avoid traffic jams on the day of the event.

The closest monorail stop to Allegiant Stadium and T-Mobile Arena is the MGM Grand station.

A quick walk on Las Vegas Boulevard will bring you to the T-Mobile Arena. To get to Allegiant Stadium, you can either take a 1.4 mile walk or board the Deuce Bus outside New York-New York which will drop you off at Mandalay Bay Road, the gateway to Allegiant.

The Strip has several free tram systems that can also help you get to events more easily.

These include the Aria express tram which connects Bellagio, Crystals shopping center and Park MGM, as well as the Mandalay Bay Tram which connects to Luxor and Excalibur.

Both of these options are great ways to help you get to the T-Mobile Arena and the Park Theater.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – The seaside resorts come back to life. Conventions are coming back to town. Now an old way of getting around is coming back.

Today, the Las Vegas monorail is coming back to life after being shut down for 15 months.

“The monorail is really an important solution to help move our visitors, to reduce congestion in and around the destination,” said Lori Nelson-Kraft of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

It really is a useful part of our transportation system, which takes people from the convention center up and down the Strip.

The monorail reopens at 7 a.m. on Thursday, just in time for conventions and events returning to Las Vegas.

“Before the pandemic, nearly 5 million passengers used the monorail,” Nelson-Kraft said. “It goes from the Sahara to MGM, so this has really been an important solution for us as we market the destination.”

The monorail debuted with two Walt Disney trains in 1995. Trains shuttled between Bally’s and MGM. In 2004, the system expanded to its current four-mile track with seven stops.

Locals can ride for as little as $ 1 each way by purchasing a package of 20. A one-way trip costs $ 5, and other options include multi-day passes at a reduced rate.

And it is also a great solution for the environment.

“You envision a zero-emission all-electric system,” Nelson-Kraft said. Every year, more than 2 million vehicle kilometers are saved and reduced on our roads – more than 27 tonnes of emissions reduced too. “

Nelson-Kraft called it “a fantastic system for convenience, but green is definitely a priority with the monorail.”

COVID-19 protocols are also in place when the monorail reopens. The LVCVA asks passengers to wear masks.

“Public transport still requires a mask and we are going through additional cleaning and sanitation, which will always be a top priority,” Kraft-Nelson said. “But it’s a fun and convenient way to get in and get around your destination. We are delighted to reopen this morning. “

Stops along the monorail route include the Flamingo and LINQ, as well as the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The reopening is another signal that the city is reopening.

The Las Vegas monorail, closed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, will resume operations at 7 a.m. on May 27, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority announced on Tuesday.

The company operating the monorail will begin selling tickets for the 3.9-mile elevated electric transit system the bankrupt LVCVA bought in December for $ 24.3 million on Tuesday.

“We are delighted to resume normal operations in time for Memorial Day weekend and World of Concrete, allowing us to provide a reliable and safe transportation solution for passengers looking for an efficient way to get to at the Las Vegas Convention Center and throughout the resort hallway. “LVCVA President and CEO Steve Hill said in a statement.

LVCVA acquired the monorail system for two reasons: it needed a reliable transportation system to the Las Vegas Convention Center from the Strip, and it needed the oversight of a non-competitive deal held by the monorail company. to enable Elon Musk’s Boring Co. project to establish a 15-mile Underground Tunnel Network on the Strip Corridor and throughout the city.

When the system is reactivated, passengers will be required to wear face masks at all times and customers will be encouraged to maintain social distancing where possible. Hand sanitization will be available at all seven stations in the system. The convention authority said passengers can meet cleaning crews at stations or on trains.

The monorail will resume its previous operating hours: Mondays, from 7 am to midnight; Tuesday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. and from Friday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Ticket options include one-way tickets and several unlimited pass options. Discounted tickets for Nevada residents can be purchased at the monorail’s customer service counters. Service counters are open daily at all stations except the Las Vegas Convention Center station.

The Las Vegas monorail resumed passenger transport Thursday morning after being closed by pandemic protocols since March 2020.

The 3.9-mile elevated electric transit system began to slide down the east side of the resort’s hallway at 7 a.m.

There are a few differences – not many that passengers will see – from the days leading up to its orderly shutdown as a way to limit the spread of COVID-19. The cost of the trip and hours of operation will remain the same, but passengers will be required to adhere to health and safety policies.

The cost to take the monorail is $ 5 one way; $ 13 for a day pass; $ 23 for a two-day pass; and $ 29 for a three-day pass. Residents with local ID can get a 20-ride pass for $ 20.

Ownership of the system has changed since the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority acquired the system from bankruptcy for $ 24.3 million in December.

Passengers are required to wear face masks at all times and customers will be encouraged to maintain social distancing where possible. Hand sanitization will be available at all seven stations in the system. The convention authority said passengers can meet cleaning crews at stations or on trains.

The monorail will resume its previous operating hours: Mondays, from 7 am to midnight; Tuesday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. and from Friday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m.

The LVCVA lobbied for the system to reopen in time for Memorial Day weekend. The organization also wanted to make sure it was up and running when the country’s first major trade show, World of Concrete, opens on June 8.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – The Las Vegas monorail will resume operations at the end of the month after remaining closed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority announced Tuesday that it will begin selling tickets for the monorail, which is scheduled to reopen on May 27 at 7 a.m.

The authority bought the elevated electric transmission system from bankruptcy in December for around $ 25 million. It stretches approximately 4 miles from the MGM Grand Las Vegas Hotel & Casino to SAHARA Las Vegas.

The authority bought the system because it needed reliable transportation to the Las Vegas Convention Center from the Strip, and it needed the control of a non-competitive agreement held by the monorail company to enable the project Elon Musk’s Boring Co. to establish a 15 mile (24-kilometer) underground network of tunnels in the city.

“The resumption of monorail operations is an important milestone as Las Vegas moves forward, providing visitors and delegates with an efficient means of navigating throughout the destination,” said the president and CEO of the authority, Steve Hill, in a statement.

Passengers will need to wear face masks, maintain social distancing where possible, and take additional safety precautions, such as hand sanitizing.

The Las Vegas Monorail estimates that the monorail has carried 90 million passengers since it opened in 2004.

s leisure and convention activities are returning to the destination and occupancy limits are increasing, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has announced the The Las Vegas monorail will resume operations at 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, in time for Memorial Day weekend and after all systems safety inspections are complete.

The 3.9-mile elevated system along the Las Vegas Strip allows passengers to travel the length of the resort’s corridor in less than 15 minutes, at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. Trains will continue to arrive every 4 to 8 minutes at each of the seven stations, including:

“The Las Vegas monorail provided an important and convenient transportation solution for leisure visitors and convention attendees,” said Steve Hill, President and CEO of LVCVA. “We are delighted to resume normal operations in time for Memorial Day weekend and World of Concrete, allowing us to provide a reliable and safe transportation solution for passengers looking for an efficient way to get to at the Las Vegas Convention Center and throughout the resort hallway. . “

As customers plan to use the system, the same requirements that exist throughout the destination will also apply on the monorail:

  • Face masks will be required at all times throughout the system
  • Customers are encouraged to maintain social distancing where possible
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at every Monorail station

To ensure the system remains clean and sanitized, customers may meet with cleaning staff on trains and platforms.

Debuting in 1995 with service between MGM Grand and Bally’s, the original system used two monorail trains that previously operated at Walt Disney World. The system expanded to its current footprint on July 15, 2004, with the launch of nine Bombardier Innovia 200 trains built specifically for the Las Vegas monorail system.

LVCVA acquired the Monorail in December 2020. The transaction preserved the important transportation option in Las Vegas and allowed other transportation options on the east side of Las Vegas Blvd. Western Management Group, LLC has been engaged by LVCVA to manage and operate the system.

The system is 100% electric and operates zero-emission trains, reducing emissions by over 27 tonnes and over 2 million vehicle kilometers per year in southern Nevada. The monorail uses regenerative braking, which works by storing excess energy that builds up when cars are slowed down, sometimes saving up to 20% of system energy.

The monorail will resume its previous operating hours:

Monday: 7 a.m. – midnight
Tuesday to Thursday: 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Friday – Sunday: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 a.m.

Ticket options include one-way tickets and several unlimited pass options. Discounted tickets for Nevada residents can be purchased at Monorail customer service counters. Service counters are open daily at all stations except the Las Vegas Convention Center station.

Contactless ticketing is available for customers to purchase and download tickets to their mobile wallet at https://tix.lvmonorail.com/purchase
