Say yes to ethical agriculture

It’s time to reinvent our approach to agriculture. Overall, American consumers want to support farms that are honest, sustainable, and committed to the humane treatment of animals. The Farm System Reform Act, reintroduced by Sen. Cory BookerD-NJ and Representative Ro Khanna, D-Calif., Is a forward-thinking bill that seeks to divert our food system from industrial agriculture to more agricultural practices. ethical.

This vital legislation would impose a moratorium on building new factory farms known as concentrated animal feed operations (CAFOs), phase out all large existing CAFOs by 2040, and provide $ 10 billion in financial assistance. per year to farmers in transition to more sustainable, higher welfare agriculture. This bill also promotes greater transparency for consumers by clarifying country-of-origin labeling for animal products. Finally, this legislation would allow communities to hold industrial farms responsible for damage to the environment or to public health.

The Farm System Reform Act calls for better conditions for workers, independent farmers, the environment and farm animals. Please contact your Congress representatives and encourage them to support it; and my own representative, Dina Titus, and Les Sens. Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto, I urge you to co-sponsor this vital legislation.
