When the Bishop Gorman football team lost a 17 point lead In the final 67 seconds on Sept. 17 in Hamilton, Ariz., coach Brent Browner called the loss humble and felt his players had learned a valuable lesson.

Either way, the Gaels were certainly motivated.

Gorman hasn’t lost a point since that night in Arizona and will put his four-game shutout streak on the line tonight at Foothill in the regular season finale. The question isn’t whether Gorman will beat Foothill, it’s whether the Gaels will give up points – they weren’t scored by the Vegas competition.

Gorman, according to many, is the favorite to win the state championship. But they’ll need to win the league title first tonight to get the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

It’s not the only game with playoff implications tonight.

In Class 4A, Desert Oasis welcomes Silverado, the winner taking the league crown. And in Class 3A, Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley compete in the annual Hammer Game.

Some games will have no impact on the image of the playoffs. Take the Clark Chargers, who regardless of the outcome tonight against Basic will play Coronado next week to open the playoffs.

But no player will call a game meaningless, especially after the canceled 2020 pandemic season.
