Las Vegas Valley sees some showers as monsoon season begins

A few monsoon showers wet the streets — and not much else — in parts of the Las Vegas Valley on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service said there was a small chance of more light showers falling on Thursday. The monsoon season for the valley officially started on June 15.

Earlier in the day, the service had issued a flood advisory for the Mojave National Preserve in eastern California and the areas surrounding it. The reserve is 70 miles southwest of Las Vegas.

Wednesday was the first day the Las Vegas area has seen precipitation since March 28, according to weather service data.
