Las Vegas’ only women’s football team seeks new players | New
LAS VEGAS (FOX 5) – The valley’s only all-female tackle football team is looking for new players.
The Las Vegas Silver Stars say they’re open to women of all shapes and sizes who join the list.
“We are looking for any woman who wants to play,” said head coach Dion Lee. “Football has a place for everyone.”
Lee said multiple shifts are needed and testing will be intense.
“We’re going to test their skills. Can they reverse? Can they catch? Can they run? Even tackle.”
While women love to play, team owner Carrie Walters said the team is more than just the game.
“We are really family oriented and give women the opportunity to play a sport that our male counterparts have been able to play for many years,” said Walters.
Lee said you don’t have to have a lot of experience to try.
“90% of football is a heart and a desire. I can teach you the skills,” Lee said.
Player Darce Washington has a lot of love for the team and wants to make them the best possible team.
“When I first got to my first practice, I was hooked and never left,” Washington said.
She’s a rookie this season and encourages other women to give it a try.
“You never know if sport is for you until you try it,” Washington said. “For women and girls, why not us? “
Trials take place on October 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Middle School and High School. Women 18 and over are encouraged to go out.
