Las Vegas Monorail tickets are now available through Google Pay

Google has announced that mobile tickets for the Las Vegas Monorail are is now available through Google Pay, powered by NXP’s MIFARE contactless technology. Mobile tickets can be purchased online and saved to Google Pay instantly, ready to scan, without even opening the app to board the vehicle. The new rollout will mean far fewer queues for users.

Prakash Hariramani, Group Product Manager, Google Pay, said:

“The Las Vegas Monorail is the first transit agency where you can use prepaid tickets or passes with Google Pay instead of a credit or debit card, and it’s coming to other cities soon. Once you’ve saved your ticket, you’ll find information in the app to guide you through your journey—you can see recent transactions, rides, or the location of the nearest monorail station.

To use the technology, you’ll need to update Google Pay to the latest version and purchase a ticket from the Las Vegas Monorail website and save it in the app. According to Google, if you purchased the ticket on a mobile device, you are already ready to ride. Once the ticket has been saved to your phone, simply hold your phone near the gate and wait for a tick to appear, then you’re ready to board!
