Kentucky takes fifth place at Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate

HENDERSON, Nev. — The Kentucky men’s golf team put in a strong performance on Day 2 of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate in Henderson, Nev., trailing three players with below-par scores as the Wildcats now rank at the fifth in the team standings.

Collectively, Kentucky posted a team score of 4-under par 284 Tuesday at Reflection Bay Golf Club, four strokes shy of their 288 peers in the first round. The Wildcats moved up a spot with 18 holes remaining as they seek their third top five of the 2021-22 campaign. West Virginia leads at 11 under par, followed by UAB (9 under), Utah (7 under) and Little Rock (5 under).

Garrett Wood once again paced the Wildcats with an impressive 4-under 68, bettering his 2-under 70 on day one to mark the 30th par-or-best round of his career. Although compensated by two bogeys on the 13th and 16th, the fifth-year birdied six – including three in a row on holes 4, 5 and 6 – while currently in fourth place, a significant improvement as he entered the day tied for 12th.

Also recording a round under par for the second day in a row was Jacob Cook, whose 70 of 2 under par matched his score on Monday. Despite a double bogey on the 3rd and a bogey on the 16th, the graduate student managed a total of five birdies. He is now tied for eighth overall and is on course for his fourth top 10 of the year.

Campbell Kremer joined his teammates with his own under par round on Tuesday. After his five bogeys were nullified by his career and team-high seven birdies, the second shot a 2-under 70 to tie his best run of the season. He is currently tied for 22nd after starting the day ranked 43rd.

Alex Goff and Jay Kirchdorfer, the latter who scored an eagle on the sixth hole, both posted scores of 4s over par 76 to head into the final day tied for 47th and 81st, respectively. Compete as an individual, Zach Norris recorded a 78 of 6 over par and is tied for 61st.

Wednesday marks the third and final round of the event. The course should be set up as a par 72 at 7,204 yards. Kentucky will start from the No. 1 starting box at 11:20 a.m. ET and will be paired with Oregon State and Little Rock.
