Hudson Valley Police Department has major new program

Today (October 18, 2021), the Lloyd Town Police Department announced that its Take Me Home program has officially launched.

Take Me Home programs have been successfully implemented in police departments in the United States. According to an online article from the Lee’s Summit Missouri Police Department, the program was originally developed by the Pensacola Police Department in Florida to help those in need of special assistance in an emergency.

The program that started today in the town of Lloyd is similar. It is designed to help people who are missing or in need of assistance find their way home. The program can help children and adults. The idea is that if the ministry already has the information on the person, it will help them get home safely or help more quickly. This type of program is extremely useful for people who cannot speak or who have a disability that would make it difficult for them to communicate with the police.

The idea of this program is that vulnerable people in the community register in advance. Then, if they are missing or if the police meet them, they can identify them faster and help them better understand who they are and what they might need. The registration form contains information about the person as well as a photo of the person and their family or caregiver contact details.

The Town of Lloyd’s Facebook post announcing the new program today also mentioned that the program has the added benefit of being able to send the information to officers in the event that a listed person is missing. In other words, if an elderly person or a vulnerable child were reported missing, their information could be sent to the computers in officers’ cars, hopefully finding the missing person sooner.

If you don’t live in Lloyd Town, contact your local police department to see if they have a similar program. If you live in the Town of Lloyd and want to register, complete the Take Me Home request form and email it to [email protected] or return the completed form to the Town of Police Department. Lloyd located at 25 Milton Ave. Highland NY. Please provide a recent photo of the registrant.
