GOOD NEWS: Midland youth will compete in the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship.

LA VEGAS Brooke Choate and Braley Hudnall, both of Midland, qualified to compete in the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship in December.

Brooke and Braley will be one of 840 participants from 28 different states, including four provinces in Canada, competing Dec. 1-5 at the Mike and Sherrylynn Johnson Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship to be held on the first weekend of the finals. national rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“We held 38 qualifiers across the United States and Canada to give our rodeo kids an equal chance to make it to Vegas and the chance to win their share of $1 million in cash and prizes,” Sherrylynn Johnson, event organizer and four-time National Rodeo Finals qualifier, said.

Johnson and her husband Mike Johnson, a rodeo ironman who has made it to the National Rodeo Finals 23 times, said the event features barrel racing, double assaults, goat ties, roping breakaways and lasso ties.

“We have different age groups, 19 and under, 15 and under, 12 and under and 10 and under,” Johnson said. “Each Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Champion will win between $10 and $30,000 in cash. We are the highest payout in four youth events in rodeo history.

Mike Johnson also noted that the total payout, including two Dodge Ram double trucks, is expected to exceed $1 million in cash and rewards this year. “Winners will take home saddles, rope cans, buckles, world champion rings and many items from our group of A-list sponsors like 5 Star, Cowgirl Tuff, Total Feed, Spalding Fly Predators, Wrangler, BeneFab , Absorbine, MVP, American Hat Co., Hebert’s Town & Country Dodge, Red River Arenas and Re-Vita EQ.
